In this lesson, we will learn how to

• Ask simple questions using ‘What’, ‘Who’, ‘How’, ‘Where’,
  ‘When’, ‘Which’ and ‘Why’

'WHAT' questions are used to get information about something or
someone. Let’s look at some examples:

‘WHAT’ QUESTIONSSAMPLE ANSWERSWhat is his name?His name is Mohan.What do you do?I study in City college.What are your hobbies?My hobbies are collecting stamps and playing chess.

‘WHO’ questions are used to ask about a particular person.
Let’s look at some examples:

‘WHO’ QUESTIONSSAMPLE ANSWERSWho lives in the red house?Ajit lives in the red house.Who plays badminton in the park?Pooja plays badminton in the park.Who is the captain of the football team?Mohan is the captain of the football team.

'WHEN' questions are used to know about the time of a particular action.
Let’s look at some examples:

‘WHAT’ QUESTIONSSAMPLE ANSWERSWhen do you wake up?I wake up a 6 a.m.When does Mohan go to school?Mohan goes to school at 7 a.m.When do they come back?They come back in the evening.

'WHICH' questions are used to ask about one thing (out of many things).

'WHY' questions are used to find out the reason.

'WHERE' questions are used to ask about the place or position.

‘How’ questions are used to ask about the manner.
‘How much’ is used to ask about price.
‘How many’ is used to ask about quantity.
‘How long’ is used to ask about duration of time.
