To ask questions using the present perfect continous tense.

In this lesson, we will learn

  • To make positive and negative statements using the present perfect continuous tense.
  • To ask questions using the present perfect continous tense.
In the Present Perfect Continuous tense, the action has been taking place for some time and is still going on.
The duration (time) for which the action has been going on is usually mentioned in the present perfect continuous tense.
Subject Have Been Verb+ing Rest of the sentence I have been waiting for an hour. You have been waiting for an hour. We have been waiting for an hour. They have been waiting for an hour. Manoj and I have been waiting for an hour. Mohan and Neha have been waiting for an hour.In these sentences, the action (waiting) has been going on for some time and is still going on.
With ‘I’, ‘You’, ‘We’, ‘They’ and more than one person, we use ‘have been ’ + verb+ing.
Subject Has Been Verb+ing Rest of the sentence He has been waiting for an hour. She has been waiting for an hour. Mohan has been waiting for an hour. Pooja has been waiting for an hour. It has been waiting for an hour.In these sentences, the action (waiting) has been going on for some time and is still going on.
With ‘He’, ‘She’, ‘It’ and any other person, we use ‘has been’ + verb+ing.

With ‘I’, ‘You’, ‘We’, ‘They’ and more than one person, we use ‘have not been’ + verb + ing. We can also use ‘haven’t’ in place of ‘have not’.
Subject Has Not Been Verb+ing Rest of the sentence He has not been studying since last month. She has not been studying since last month. Mohan has not been studying since last month. Pooja has not beenstudying since last month.In these sentences, the action (studying) has not been going on for some time and is still going not happening.
With ‘He’, ‘She’, ‘It’, and any other person, we use ‘has not been’ + verb + ing. We can also use ‘hasn’t’ in place of ‘has not’.
HAVE Subject Been+Verb+ing Rest of the sentence Have I been playing football since 5 p.m.? Have you been playing football since 5 p.m.? Have we been playing football since 5 p.m.? Have they been playing football since 5 p.m.? Have Manoj and I been playing football since 5 p.m.? Have Neha and Manoj been playing football since 5 p.m.?These questions are used to ask if the action (playing) has been going on for some time and is still going on.
